CELL PHONE POLICY

PLEASE READ MORE ABOUT OUR CELL PHONE POLICY

READ MORE HERE

We’ve received questions about our cell phone policy and how it responds to the new state legislation. Below is a brief summary of our policy and what to expect this year with cell phones at PGHS.  The full policy is available here.

1- Every teacher has a cell phone pouch hanging in their classroom. Students are required to put their phone in the pouch before the bell rings to start class and will retrieve their phone at the end of class.

2- Students may not remove their phone when they take the hall pass to the bathroom or for other reasons.

3- Students may have their phones between classes and at lunch. The legislation allows schools some flexibility here, and given our open campus, we felt this was a reasonable balance.

4- Please direct your concerns to the administration, rather than teachers. Teachers have much less flexibility and we want to keep their focus on teaching and learning rather than enforcement and power struggles during class time.

This is our third year of having the cell phone pouch policy and seeing its benefits first hand. In the past, enforcement has varied by classroom, but this year the new legislation requires consistent school-wide enforcement.

Hopefully this provides more clarity on our cell phone policy this year.

Thank You!
